What is letterboxing? |
| Letterboxing
is a hobby that combines hiking, treasure hunting, and artistic expression
all in one. Its a great hobby for people who like being outdoors and one
that families can enjoy together. It consists of letterboxers who can
either plant or search out various letterboxes, or both. Anyone can
participate. The boxes are hidden in (usually) remote and beautiful places
that you might not find if you weren't letterboxing. In each box is a log
book and a hand carved stamp that has something to do with the surrounding
area. Each letterboxer has his or her own "signature" stamp and
when a new box is found, the letterboxer stamps his or her signature stamp
into the letterbox's log book. They then stamp the letterbox's stamp into
their own personal log. To find the various letterboxes, you must first
find clues. The internet has many sites that post these clues. The
Letterboxing North America site is the biggest and most popular, I
believe. This hobby has been growing at an amazing rate due to recent
articles being posted around the country. New local web pages such as this
one are starting to pop up everywhere so there will only be more and more
places to find and post clues...Letterboxing North America also has a
Yahoo Group if you want to really get involved and learn about the
hobby...
