Here's our Haunted Rocking Chair. It only took one afternoon to make (not including the time in the junkyard looking for wiper motors!) We had the plywood scraps already and the motor was only seven dollars, so not including the power source (our battery charger) this was a really cheap prop. Not sure if we're going to use black light on it or not. Will be fun to play around with it after dark...maybe our small fog machine behind it...we'll have to see what looks best...I usually have a large pot of purple mums on the porch for the fall, so they will hide the mechanism quite nicely. Thanks for taking the time to look... |

Here is a picture of the unit unattached to the motor. When ready for use, simply push the motor end through the hole in the upper piece of wood (black). |

Here it is attached. Notice the platform of plywood under the chair to steady the motor unit. And the scrap wood we used to screw into the chair itself had holes in it already. They serve no purpose. |

A photo of the motor and how it is bolted to the plywood. Very simple. The vertical piece of plywood is attached to the one under the chair by a small piece of 2 X 4...We found a wiper motor with all it's rubber gaskets intact, so it attaches to the wood nicely and won't vibrate. Brad got this motor from a full sized Chevy and plans on doing the same for all our other wiper motor props. It will be nice to be able to swap parts when needed...

A closer photo of the pvc tube we put on the end of the motor crank, to allow movement as it turns in the wood hole.
